CAMPAIGN NEWS
With only 5 days left until Election Day, we are making our final steps to victory. I am very grateful to all of you who have come out and shown your support at fundraisers and precinct walks and for those that continue to offer positive feedback and moral support throughout the campaign website for further details of how I saved our schools.
PRINCESS SOPHIA, MY NEWLY BORN GRANDDAUGHTER
Recently, my campaign team received great news from one of our phone banks that showed that 1 in 3 voters had already voted or were planning on voting for me in the upcoming election. Other Anaheim polls show that I am in the running for the top two spots. While this is great news, we know the election will be very close and will most likely be decided by less than 100 votes. That's why it is critical that we get our message out to as many people as possible in these last few days until the election on November 2nd. I say "our message", because I've based my platform on the concerns and ideas of all of you. Not only have your views helped shape my campaign, but they have influenced the platforms of other candidates running for City Council as well.
MY PLATFORM
Here are the issues and core values that I have based my campaign on since the beginning with help from Anaheim residents such as yourself that care about their city. Increase police patrols by making police funding top priority.Neighborhood preservation and graffiti abatement. Transparency and streamlining of city infrastructure projects.Establish Enterprise Zone and business incentives to create new revenue and jobs.Sensible transportation projects that alleviate traffic congestion and support tourism.Support State Budget Reform that keeps property tax revenues in Anaheim.Maintain and reinvest in resorts while enhancing neighborhoods.Reestablish strong relationships with our school districts.
CANDIDATE OF THE PEOPLE
Of all the leading candidates for Anaheim City Council, I am the only candidate that is not backed by special interests or big union dollars. As a longtime Anaheim resident, member of the community, volunteer, and Trustee for Anaheim Union High School District, I have been very fortunate to receive the support of so many residents and local elected officials such as yourself, who deeply care about their city and believe in my campaign and my ability to lead Anaheim forwards towards long-term prosperity.
STEP UP TO THE PLATE
I encourage all of you to learn more about my exciting campaign and the great ideas we have for Anaheim. If you care about Anaheim and support my platform and core values, than I challenge you to step up to the plate and get involved. You can visit us at www.votehoagy.com or call us at 714-533-3334. In addition, I welcome any questions or comments that you would like to share.
I look forward to building a better Anaheim together!

"A CAMPAIGN FOR YOU"
By "Hoagy" on September 12, 2010
For the last 8 weeks, I have spent countless hours walking neighborhoods in Anaheim and have had the opportunity to meet with many residents and hear their concerns. That is what this campaign is about—hearing what the voters have to say about Anaheim, and I want to hear from you too. Chances are, I’ll be coming to your door, but in case I miss you, please visit my website at votehoagy.com to find out more about my campaign, voice your concerns, and leave valuable feedback.
SUPERVISOR JANET NGUYEN ENDORSES THOMAS “HOAGY” HOLGUIN
I am proud to receive the endorsement of 1st District County Supervisor, Janet Nguyen. Supervisor Nguyen knows the value of great schools in our community and supports me in working to keep schools a priority by creating a strong relationship between school districts and the City. She also believes in protecting our neighborhoods from gangs and crime, which is among my top priorities as City Council Member.
EARLY PRISON RELEASE PROGRAM
Under the new early release program passed last year by the California Legislature, over 27,000 prison inmates could be released this year and back on our streets. This will surely affect the safety and security of our neighborhoods and will result in increased crime and graffiti. As your City Council Member, I will keep Police funding a top priority to ensure there are enough officers on patrol in our neighborhoods. Check out my YouTube video to see how I responded to this issue when asked about it at a neighborhood fundraiser.
PROVEN INTEGRITY
In 2002, the year I was elected to the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees, the Measure Z Anaheim High School Construction Bond was also passed allocating $132 million plus matching State funds for modernization and construction of school sites in the district. After finding that the District Superintendent and upper management had mismanaged the construction projects and funds, I called for the independent forensic audit that led to the Grand Jury investigation of the project and saved our District up to $50 million through massive restructuring and re-bidding of construction contracts and insurance policies. Check out my website for further details of how I saved our schools.
JOIN THE CAMPAIGN
With only 7 weeks left until Election Day in November 2nd and 14 candidates in the running, we need help from dedicated volunteers who care about Anaheim and would like to help get me elected to City Council. To find out about how you can get involved, please email me at votehoagy.com. Thanks for taking part in the political process and I hope to earn your vote on November 2nd.
In Service and Gratitude,
Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin

Dear Anaheim Voter,

In the coming week, I will be posting much of this discussion on YouTube for you to view and share with your friends and family.

"HOAGY ON SMALL BUSINESS AND ED ROYCE ENDORSEMENT"
By "Hoagy" on August 10, 2010
Featured on Orange Juice: Orange County's top political blog
Dear Anaheim Voter, With a little over 3 months away until election day on November 2nd, a team of dedicated volunteers and myself walked precincts last weekend to get face-to-face with Anaheim voters and business owners in order to hear what issues were most important to them and discuss some of there concerns. While most residents believed that the City of Anaheim is generally moving in the right direction, the greatest concern commonly voiced was in regards to job creation and aid to small businesses.
As a small business owner in Anaheim of over 25 years, I know how challenging it is to start a business, grow a business, and keep it flourishing even in a rough economy. As a general contractor, I am well aware of how hard local government and state agencies can make it for small businesses to operate and make a profit. In fact, because of strict regulations, many newly formed corporations in California are often forced out of business in the first few years while much of the manufacturing industry has left California and relocated overseas.
As your newly elected Anaheim City Council Member, I will work to bring manufacturing jobs back to Anaheim, seek aid for existing small businesses, and help create new jobs within the city. Many cities across the country are taking entrepreneurial approaches to government by using federal stimulus dollars to create new specialized jobs, while others are using matching grant programs to help manufacturers retool to be more competitive in growing sectors such as medical products and green technology. Most important, I will continue to listen to business owners and look at existing codes to make sure they are protective, but not restrictive.
WEST ANAHEIM FUNDRAISER ON AUGUST 11TH
Hosted by Frank and Sally Feldhaus, Vic Real, Nathan Zug, Jackie Terrell, and Donn Yvaska, come support me on Wednesday, August 11th at Mama Cozza’s Restaurant at 6pm for an Italian buffet and intimate discussion about West Anaheim. Bring the entire family!
An Anaheim landmark for 45 years, Mama Cozza’s is a family restaurant that serves hearty authentic Italian cuisine and has been featured on the Food Network hosted by Guy Fieri.
Mama Cozza’s is located at 2170 W. Ball Road. For more information, please go to www.votehoagy.com or contact me at 714-533-3334. Suggested contribution is $50 per person or $100 for the entire family.
CONGRESSMAN ED ROYCE ENDORSES HOAGY

I am pleased to announce the endorsement of Congressman Ed Royce for my 2010 campaign for Anaheim City Council . Congressman Royce is a champion for Anaheim’s small businesses and I am honored to receive his endorsement. Congressman Royce says,“Hoagy is the type of common sense conservative that we need for Anaheim City Council. He has great business expertise and has helped save our schools millions of dollars through keen oversight.”

"HOAGY ON CALIFORNIA STATE BUDGET REFORM"
By "Hoagy" on JULY 6, 2010
Dear Anaheim Voter,
While the clock runs into overtime in Sacramento, so does our State Budget Deficit as the legislature fails to approve a sound fiscal budget that doesn’t increase spending and take away from our schools.
Currently facing an $18 billion state budget deficit, the state legislature’s quick-fix answer is more borrowing for social welfare programs along with additional reductions in education. With over $65 million in cuts to our schools in the past few years and hundreds of pink slips issued to teachers, further cuts to Anaheim’s school districts will result in further loss of jobs and programs.
Anticipating over $19 million in additional funding cuts this year will put athletic programs, adult education, and career technical training classes at greatest risk. There is no mistaking, however, in the value of these programs. While athletic programs bring great discipline, self-esteem, and keep kids off the streets, adult education and career technical training play a vital role in job development during tough economic times. Elimination of these programs will ultimately result in an increase of the crime rate and a prolonged lack of income-based revenue for the city of Anaheim.
As Trustee of the Anaheim Union High School District for 10 years, I have fought to maintain funding for our schools while bringing strong fiscal accountability to the Measure Z Anaheim Union High School District modernization bond. As your City Council Member, I will bring the same accountability to Anaheim infrastructure projects, while using innovation to bring resources back to Anaheim.
The days of the State managing our local resources needs to come to an end. As legislators look for new ways to balance the State Budget and reform the budget process, one recent idea is to downsize state government and shift the finances and responsibility back to local government. This will eliminate layers of costly administration and allow counties and cities to make financial decisions that best serve them. The end result is more funding for our police and fire departments, more available resources for parks and neighborhood beautification programs, and greater investment of our own resources into our City’s growth supporting infrastructure.
I firmly believe that decisions and resources should remain at the city level, and that the City of Anaheim would greatly benefit from such reform. I also believe that strong and conservative fiscal management is needed in order to grow our city in this tough economic time. I am the only candidate for City Council with proven fiscal management experience, and I am the most qualified candidate at working with local and state elected officials towards achieving a common goal.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts in the coming months and to gain your support on November 2, 2010. Please visit my campaign online at www.votehoagy.com and email your thoughts or concerns to me at hoagy4acc@live.com.
Let’s Grow Anaheim Together!

"HOAGY GAINS MOMENTUM"
By "Hoagy" on June 14, 2010
Dear Friends and Supporters,
With Memorial Day weekend and now graduation upon us, my loving wife Patty and I have had a busy 2 weeks attending ceremonies, our first Eat & Greet, graduations, and election-day activities. It was Patty’s first time having the opportunity to take part in the political process as a voter, and I am very proud of her.
The Memorial Day ceremony at Anaheim Cemetery sponsored by American Legion Post 72 was a heartfelt and patriotic experience and was well-attended by members of our community. I was touched by the level of respect that I witnessed that day from residents who came to pay tribute and even one of our local Boy Scout troops who took time to place flags on every gravesite of men and women who bravely served our county in the armed services as well as participating in the ceremony. I especially was overcome by the sight of watching a small boy walking through the cemetery and dusting off the names on the plaques of fallen heroes and the elderly man who was at his knees over the grave of a fallen comrade.
The next week will be packed with more ceremonies that honor our heroes; those young men and women who are graduating from high school and are about to embark on their adventures as college students, entrepreneurs, enlistees in the armed services, and trade apprentices. They are our leaders of tomorrow and we need to provide them with encouragement and support them in their dreams and aspirations.
OBSERVING FLAG DAY
Flag Day is a celebration of the adoption of the American flag by Continental Congress in the First Flag Resolution of June 14, 1777. Although the 200-year anniversary of this date was celebrated by flying flags on public buildings and holding remembrances in several cities, Flag Day wasn’t officially recognized until President Harry Truman signed it into law in 1949.
When saluting the flag, all persons must come to attention. Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute. Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart. Members of organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.
The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, and saluting. When the national anthem is played or sung, citizens should stand at attention and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the music.

"HOAGY KICKS OFF BID FOR COUNCIL"
"Defender of Anaheim Schools Joins List of Hopefuls for Anaheim City Council "
ANAHEIM , CALIF – On May 24, 2010 , Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin , longtime Board Member for Anaheim Union High School District , will kick-off his campaign for 2010 Anaheim City Council at the Anaheim White House Restaurant.
With an impressive list of supporters including Honorable Lucille Kring, Honorable Frank Feldhaus, Bill Taormina, Jackie Terrell, and Honorable Ed Royce Sr., Holguin presents himself as the only candidate with over 10 years of on the job experience and a track record for getting things done. “He’s the right candidate for Anaheim City Council to help continue the economic growth of the city,” said Anaheim developer, Bill Taormina.
Along with his top priorities to expand the revitalization of the city’s infrastructure and enhance its economy, Holguin seeks to help leverage limited city resources through strong fiscal management and help homeowners and first-time buyers through increased housing assistance programs. As general contractor and business owner, Thomas Holguin was instrumental in bringing fiscal responsibility back to the Anaheim Union High School District ’s recent bond-funded construction projects.
“As an Anaheim resident of over 28 years, I have a vested interest in Anaheim and will work hard to preserve economic growth, neighborhood preservation, and help continue many of the successes brought forth by the current Council,” says Holguin .
Along with Holguin ’s excellent record as a public servant, he has over 1,000 volunteer hours with community organizations such as the Anaheim Redevelopment and Housing Commission, Anaheim Boys & Girls Club, Anaheim Community Development Department, North Orange County Regional Occupational Program ( ROP ),
Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, Cops4Kids, and City of Hope.

THOMAS HOAGY HOLGUIN ANNOUNCES ANAHEIM CITY COUNCIL CANDIDACY
By Orange Juice: Orange County's top political blog
May 8, 2010
Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin Announces Anaheim City Council Candidacy
10-Year Anaheim Union High School District Trustee to host kick-off event on May 24th at The Anaheim White House
Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin today announced his intention to seek election to the Anaheim City Council in the Fall of 2010. Holguin, a past president, has been a trustee with the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees since 2000. He also previously served on the Board of Trustees for the North Orange County ROP, and is a successful local businessman and 28-year resident of Anaheim.
“It continues to be a great honor to represent the students, parents and taxpayers of Anaheim Union High School District and I am completely energized about the possibility of working to find solutions for the city as an Anaheim City Council member,” said Holguin.
During his tenure on the AUHSD Board, Holguin was a key supporter in the passage of a $256 million school construction bond that renovated schools and built new facilities throughout the district. During his service, high school graduations increased and parental involvement have shown marked increases. “Investing in Anaheim’s youth is an investment in the future health of our community. I’m proud of my track record in making sure we’ve accomplished that goal,” he added.
“Given my success in education, I believe that I can bring a business approach to city government that encourages private investment and public participation while maintaining the current level of public services and living within our means. Maintaining public safety and increasing neighborhood investment and participation are also high priorities for me as well. During these challenging times, it is imperative that we bring a fiscally responsible approach to city government and combine that with a high degree of transparency to ensure the public’s trust,” said Holguin.
The public is invited to attend a campaign kick-off event for “Hoagy” on May 24th at the Anaheim White House, 887 South Anaheim Blvd. in Anaheim. For more information, please call 714-984-5471 or e-mail at hoagy4acc@live.com.
